Dario Destefano si è formato artisticamente con i maestri Renzo Brancaleon, Antonio Janigro e Johannes Goritski. Dopo aver conseguito, a coronamento dei suoi studi, la massima votazione summa cum laude sia al Conservatorio di Torino, sia in Germania presso la Hochschule di Düsseldorf, ha proseguito la sua carriera nell’ambito concertistico e nell’insegnamento. Dopo essersi distinto in concorsi nazionali, ha vinto il primo premio assoluto al concorso nazionale per duo strumentale di Corsico (MI), nel 1983, a soli 19 anni nella categoria seniores, con una giuria formata da componenti del Quartetto Italiano e nel 1985 ha vinto il secondo premio al concorso straordinario per duo di Vittorio Veneto, con giuria composta da componenti del Trio di Trieste. Nel 1986, a soli 22 anni, ha vinto il concorso per primo violoncello presso l’orchestra del teatro Comunale di Bologna, con il quale ha attivamente collaborato. Successivamente ha collaborato con l’orchesra della Rai di Torino e ha fatto parte, per oltre 10 anni (dal 1997 al 2008), sempre in qualità di primo violoncello, dell’orchestra del Teatro Regio di Torino. Altri importanti concorsi in cui ha ottenuto lusinghieri risultati sono: —1990 primo premio assoluto al Concorso Internazionale di musica da camera G.B. VIOTTI di Vercelli. —1993 secondo premio all’OSAKA INTERNATIONAL CHAMBER MUSIC COMPETITION (Giappone). —1995 secondo premio al Concorso Internazionale di Musica da Camera di Trapani. Oltre che in Italia ha suonato in Spagna, Francia, Inghilterra, Belgio, Svizzera, Danimarca, Germania, Austria, Turchia, Albania, Algeria. Ha eseguito oltre trenta concerti delle Suites di J. S. Bach e più di trecento concerti di musica da camera. Ha presentato in prima esecuzione assoluta, con il flautista Andrea Griminelli, il concerto per flauto, violoncello e orchestra di Ennio Morricone. Ha effettuato tournées in prestigiosi teatri di Brasile, Stati Uniti e Giappone, ove ha suonato anche come solista con orchestra al Fuji Festival e alla Bunka Kaikan di Tokio. Ha realizzato otto CD, registrando l’integrale della musica da camera di Chopin, le due sonate di Brahms, le sonate di Franck, Rachmaninov, Kabalevsky, Shostakovic e Trii di Brahms, Dvorak, Rubinstein, Smetana, Shostakovic, Ciaikovsky, Ravel. Dario Destefano developped his artistic experience thanks to the teachers Renzo Brancaleon, Antonio Janigro and Johannes Gorotsky.
At the end of his studies, after having obtained them with high honours ,summa cum laude, both at the Conservatory of Turin and in Germany at the Hochschule of Dusseldorf, he has continued his career both as concert performer and teacher.
After having excelled in several national contests, in 1983, when he is only 19, he takes part to the national contest in Corsico (MI) and he wins the first prize for instrumental duo in the senior category judged by a jury composed by the Quartetto Italiano and in 1985 he wins the Vittorio Veneto second prize for duo competition with a jury composed by components of the Trieste Trio.
In 1986, when he is only 22, he wins the competition as first cellist in the orchestra of the Bologna town theatre with which he has actively collaborated.
Subsequently, he works with the Turin RAI orchestra, being part for more than 10 years (from 1997 to 2008).
Other important contests in which he obtained gratifying results are:
- – 1990 first prize at the international contest of chamber music at G.B. VIOTTI in Vercelli,
- – 1993 second prize at the INTERNATIONAL CHAMBER MUSIC COMPETITION IN OSAKA (Japan)
- – 1995 second prize at the International contest of Chamber music in Trapani.
In addition to all this, he has played in Spain, France, England, Belgium, Switzerland, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Turkey, Albany and Algeria.
He has played more than thirty concerts of the Suites of J.S.Bach and more than three hundreds chamber music ones.
He has played, during a never done before performance, a concert just for flautist and cellist, with the flautist Andrea Griminelli and the Ennio Morricone Orchestra.
He has made tournées in important theatres in Brasil, Unites States and Japan, where he played also as soloist in a festival with the Fuji Orchestra and at Bunka Kaikan in Tokio.
He has also made eight CDs recording the complete opera of Chopin chamber music, the two Brahms sonatas, the sonatas of Franck, Rachmaninov, Kabalevsky, Shostakovic and Trio of Brahms, Dvorak, Rubinstein, Smetana, Shostakovic, Ciaikovsky and Ravel.
